Tan Bun Skrati
Artisanal chocolate made "tree-to-bar" in Suriname, the smallest country in South America on the northeastern shore of the continent. That means the hands doing the harvesting are the same as those that do the fermenting, drying and all other steps in chocolate making up to the packing and shipping of the bars.
This is the 100% cacao bar; there are also 72% cacao and 80% cacao bars (and cocoa butter lip balm!) available from Tan Bun Skrati. You'll find flavor notes of flowers, fruits, dairy, spices and nuts.
"Skrati" is the Sranan Tongo word for processed cacao and the hot drink made with it that has been a Surinamese speciality for hundreds of years. The people at Tan Bun Skrati harvest twice a year from privately owned cacao gardens and orchards in the districts of Saramacca, Wanica, Para and Commewijne and then process the cacao in the Tan Bun Skrait studio in the capital city of Paramaribo.
